The Association for Molecular Pathology recognized some of its best and brightest this evening in San Jose.
Award for Excellence in Molecular Diagnostics: Patrick O. Brown, MD, PhD, Stanford University
AMP's highest award recognizes lifetime pioneering and special achievements by professionals in the fields of molecular biology, molecular pathology, pathology, genetics, microbiology and basic medical sciences, especially as these achievements relate to molecular diagnostics and molecular medicine. Dr. Brown, professor of Biochemistry, is recognized for his pioneering work in studying patterns of gene expression in development and disease and the development of DNA microarrays.
Leadership Award: Andrea Ferreira-Gonzalez, PhD, Virginia Commonwealth University
This award for exceptional leadership in advancing the mission and goals of AMP reconizes Dr. Ferreira-Gonzalez for numerous roles. She is chair of the Molecular Diagnostics Division, professor of Pathology at VCU and director of the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory at VCU Health System. She has served as a member of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Advisory Committee to HHS, is a member of the Secretary's HHS Advisory Committee on Genetics, Health and Society and has serve3d on the Secretary's HHS Personalized Healthcare Workgroup.
