Healthcare Staffing Predictions

Published November 2, 2011 9:20 AM by Lynn
While the recession and healthcare reform created the “perfect storm” for challenges in healthcare staffing needs, it’s predicted that once more hospitals and health networks adopt new patient care delivery models, particularly the accountable care organization (ACO) model, several disciplines and specialties will be in great demand. At a recent ADVANCE New York City Job Fair (http://www.advanceweb.com/), one speaker estimates that about 100 ACOs will be forming nationwide and opening in April and July of 2012. Based on the new regulations that comprise a 600+ page document, the speaker predicts a growing demand for discharge planners, compliance specialists, care coordinators/care managers, IT specialists and analysts, primary care physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses and rehabilitation specialists (physical and occupational therapies and speech rehab), to name just a few.
