AMP 2011 Opening Day
Association for Molecular Pathology 2011 Annual Meeting kicked off today in
Grapevine, TX, at the mini-city Gaylord Texan Hotel & Convention Center. ADVANCE is on site checking out the
latest technologies and learning about new methodologies and procedures.
The day kicked off with
concurrent early bird sessions (“Million Veteran Program,” “LAMP Discussion”
and “NIH Genetic Testing Registry” followed by opening remarks and the AMP
Award for Excellence in Molecular Diagnostics Lecture. This year’s award
winner, Carlo M. Croce, MD, is The John W. Wolfe Chair in Human Cancer Genetics
at The Ohio State University and chairman of the department of Molecular
Virology, Immunology and Medical Genetics, and director, Institute of Genetics.
His spoke this morning about causes and consequences of microRNA dysregulation
After the plenary session on
cell lines in chemotherapy response and recent E. coli updates, attendees broke
out for concurrent sessions on a number of topics. After a general luncheon,
the exhibit hall opened at 1:00 p.m. ADVANCE
looks forward to a full day in the exhibit hall tomorrow—stay tuned for much
Also of note: if you have a
smart phone and haven’t downloaded the AMP Annual Meeting app, take a second to
do so! It’s got maps, a full schedule including speaker information and meeting
rooms (personalize it by selecting the sessions you plan to attend), an
exhibitor list with booth numbers and more. When you’re on the move or your
hands are full, the app is way more convenient than the program book.
