Cinco de Mayo Promotional Products

Published 04 May 10 04:44 PM
We've got the goods for all of your celebration needs.

OK, I'm a bit behind on this one. I usually try to write about upcoming holidays pretty far in advance so I'm not telling you about stuff that you can't have right now. However, we have a bunch of great Cinco de Mayo promotional products (or products that could be used for Cinco de Mayo celebrations), and I didn't want to skip out on those. The bonus is that one of these (the palm tree bottle opener) is actually a 24-hour rush product, so you can have it pretty darn close to the fifth of May.

Now, onto the important stuff. Quiz!

  1. Cinco de Mayo is Mexican Independence Day.
    1. True.
    2. False.
  2. Custom maracas would make a great promotional item for Cinco de Mayo.
    1. True.
    2. False.
  3. Mexico holds crazy celebrations all across the country for Cinco de Mayo.
    1. True.
    2. False.
  4. Coronas, margaritas and tequila shots are priced much higher on the fifth of May than any other day of the year, at least at my local bars.
    1. True.
    2. False.
  5. They have palm trees in parts of Mexico, but a palm tree-shaped bottle opener would not make a good promotional item for Cinco de Mayo.
    1. True.
    2. False.
  6. Sombreros are pretty awesome.
    1. True.
    2. False.
  7. Some people like to partake in adult beverages on Cinco de Mayo. Therefore, you should consider custom bottle coolers to use as Cinco de Mayo promotional products.
    1. True.
    2. False.

Answer Key: 1. False! Though a common misconception that the holiday commemorates Mexican independence, Cinco de Mayo actually celebrates a Mexican victory over France in 1862 on the fifth of May. The actual Mexican Independence Day is Sept. 16 (see also: that's my birthday).

2. True. Indeed they would! Custom maracas are cool, colorful and different.

3. False. America kinda took Cinco de Mayo and ran with it. The holiday is celebrated north of the border more than south of it. In Puebla, there are some celebrations as that's where the battle took place, but Cinco de Mayo's not as huge in Mexico as it is here in the U.S.

4. This is 100 percent true. Those $3 Coronas will be five bucks tomorrow. Darn supply and demand ...

5. False. A palm-tree shaped bottle opener, especially one that can be imprinted and ready within 24 hours, is a great promo product for Cinco de Mayo!

6. Meh. I disagree, so this will be false. They look ridiculous on me. I've tried and failed at the sombrero look.

7. True. Warm adult beverages are sad adult beverages. Unless you're talking about boilo, which is happier warm.

About Lynn Jusinski

After an internship at a home magazine where she wrote about media rooms and $500,000 pool renovations from the comfort of a teeny, cluttered dorm room, Lynn Jusinski graduated from a small college in Pennsylvania and then moved on to write for two weekly newspapers in suburban Philadelphia. A column she penned for the papers won an award from the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association. In 2007, Lynn moved back to the magazine world, and worked full-time as an associate editor for ADVANCE for Health Information Professionals. Her work on the magazine led to “Rookie of the Year” honors and a second place feature award in the annual Editorial Excellence Awards presented by Merion Publications Inc. In her free time, Lynn is typically stuck in traffic, shopping, reading, constructing poorly made crafts and hanging out in and around her hometown.
