Breast Cancer Awareness Contest Winner
In honor of October's Breast Cancer Awareness month, we held a contest
asking what you would do to raise awareness about breast cancer prevention and detection.
We were floored by the wonderful and inspiring responses. Many of you talked about events and ideas you already are implementing. Others came up with fantastic ideas for how to rally their communities around the cause.
One entry stood out above the rest, so we are pleased to announce that Linda Freitas is the winner! Linda described the annual MammoMarathons hosted by UPMC Hamot Imaging Center, Erie, Pa. The event includes 24 hours of mammography screenings, refreshments, manicures, free giveaways and more!
Linda, we wish you luck during your fifth annual MammoMarathon on Friday! Thanks for supporting such a wonderful cause, and we hope you enjoy your $50 gift certificate from the ADVANCE Healthcare Shop!
Here's Linda's entry:
"Five years ago, I came up with an idea to encourage women to get their screening mammograms. Many women had the excuse of not having time or no appointments available when they needed them. This will be our 5th annual MammoMarathon. We offer 24 hours of mammography appointments to our community. In addition to the mammography screening, we offer additional health information, free giveaways, chair massages, manicures, raffles and refreshments throughout the day and morning.
We pamper our patients and make it fun for our ladies. Every year our event has grown. We have it always on National Mammography Day. This Year it is October 21st. We have volunteers and staff that participate to make this a successful event.
We have had women who had their mammograms at this event who would said that they would have never gotten this important screening because of their busy lives. We actually saved some patients lives.
We are hoping that this 5th year will be our biggest! It would be nice if other Breast Clinics would join in and set aside this day to encourage women to get their screeening mammograms." - Linda Freitas, Breast/x-ray - Assistant Manager, UPMC Hamot Imaging Center, Erie, Pa.
