Very Important Upcoming Holidays

What's better than ice cream sandwiches and watermelon in the summer? OK, you wouldn't eat both at the exact same time (unless you shoved this between some chocolate chip cookies ...), but neither can really be beat when it comes to refreshing summer treats.

While I wait patiently for National Everything Has Its Own Holiday Day, I spent some time perusing the upcoming very important days, and two caught my eye: National Ice Cream Sandwich Day (Aug. 2) and National Watermelon Day (Aug. 3). Of course, according to Holiday Insights, there's no record of either of these being actual "national" days, so no tax dollars were harmed in the making of these celebrations.

My first thoughts when I read about these big events? Yum ... and then, wow, that's gonna get messy, no matter which one you choose to celebrate, and if you go with both, you party maven, well, I foresee stickiness in your future.

If you choose to celebrate - and I don't see why you wouldn't - you'll need a couple of things to get going. First, a watermelon. Second, an ice cream sandwich. You can go with either or here. Third, a place to spit seeds of said watermelon. And fourth, you should probably stock up on hand sanitizers for yourself and anyone around you who might be partaking in the festivities.
