ADVANCE Perspective: HIM

Hope Everyone Behaves on the Planes

Published April 3, 2009 10:44 AM by Lynn Jusinski
The ADVANCE staff will be rather far flung early next week. Cheryl McEvoy is heading off to Chicago for the HIMSS conference, and I'm boarding a flight to Las Vegas early Sunday morning to take in the AAPC show. We'll be bringing you all sorts of conference coverage from the show and when we get back to our little hub outside of Philadelphia.

I love flying-for the most part. I simply prepare myself for the worst (not the plane crashing; I'd rather not think about that). I figure if I go in with low expectations for my fellow plane passengers, running into a nice one will seriously brighten up my day.

In the past, I've flown on this exact flight twice, and both times it was rather raucous. The first time, I was switching over to fly to see a friend in Los Angeles, and the second time, I continued on to Reno, NV, for a work trip. Everyone else on the plane seemed to be staying in Vegas, so I wasn't exactly as revved up as the rest of the crowd. This time, with Vegas as my final destination, I still won't be joining in the debauchery, but at least I'll be more relaxed knowing I don't have to switch planes or amuse myself during the layover.

I'm looking forward to meeting our readers at the AAPC conference, taking in education sessions and perusing the booths in the exhibit hall. I'm also digging the fact that it won't be freezing or pouring rain there (someone tell PA that spring has sprung, and also to disregard that "April showers" shenanigans). Feel free to say hi if you see a short girl carrying a bag stuffed with cameras, a laptop, an iPhone, notebooks, pens, a video camera and tripod and a voice recorder. It's a very big bag.

If you're heading to AAPC, what are you looking forward to? If you can't make the show, check back Sunday through Tuesday for blog updates live from the conference. I will likely brave the Web 2.0 world with updates on Twitter, and you can check us out @ADVANCEforHIM. Happy travels!
