AHIOS Presenting at AHIMA Conference Next Week
The Association of Health Information Outsourcing Services (AHIOS) announced that Bonnie Coffey, former AHIOS president and charter member, will be presenting an education track at the 2010 American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Convention and Exhibit in Orlando, FL, next week.
Coffey's presentation, titled "Overcoming EMR Roadblocks in the ROI Process" will focus on the differences between a clinical electronic health record (EHR) and a legal health record (LHR), and will discuss how technology can have a significant impact on the release-of-information (ROI) process. Additionally, Coffey's presentation will outline the five critical roadblocks in the complex ROI process that must be overcome by the HIM department before a record can be released, and will explain why human intervention is imperative in the HIM environment.
"I am honored to be speaking at this year's AHIMA convention and to be included in such a distinguished group of HIM professionals," said Coffey. "Now more than ever, with changing regulations under ARRA and the HITECH Act, it is imperative that HIM professionals understand the impact of recent legislation on our industry, and I am pleased to contribute to the industry by providing education and resources to healthcare professionals across the country."
For more than a decade, AHIOS has worked to sustain its mission by increasing awareness of the value, importance and complexity of the outsourcing industry and establish standards of excellence in the ROI process. One of the most critical components of the organization's mission is to pursue fair and equitable treatment of the outsourcing industry through legislative, regulatory and legal processes.
Coffey will be giving this presentation on behalf of AHIOS on Sept. 29, 2010, at 11:35 a.m. at the Gaylord Palms Hotel and Convention Center, in Orlando, FL. The 2010 AHIMA Convention and Exhibit, which is dedicated to health information management, runs Sept. 25 - 30.
