Record Attendance at 2012 Annual HIMSS Conference
If you attended the 2012 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition, held in Las Vegas at the Venetian Sands Expo Center from Feb. 20-24, you were part of a record-breaking event. As of Friday morning, attendance at HIMSS12 reached 37,032 attendees, surpassing the HIMSS11 attendance figure of 31,500 attendees. They participated in more than 300 education sessions and visited the exhibit hall with 1,123 exhibiting companies.
ADVANCE Editor Adrienne O'Brien attended HIMSS12 and reported that more hospitals are seeing healthcare reform as a reality, which contributed to the rise in attendance this year. Hot topics included meaningful use, ICD-10 codes, mobile health and consumer engagement. And let's not forget health information exchanges (HIEs) - after one session on HIEs and better patient care, one audience member commented that HIEs are "the most vital clinical tool since the CT scanner."
