The Daily Grind: Wife, Mommy and MT Student

About The Daily Grind: Wife, Mommy and MT Student

We all have our own daily grind that, at times, can be a little overwhelming. I often find that the day slips away just as quickly as it started and I am left wondering if I accomplished anything productive at all. However, one thing that I have learned is that no matter how long and tiring some days might seem, we always make it through. I love my roles as wife, mommy and student, but the student part has given me a run for my money. I was a great student in school and never had trouble studying-- in fact, I used to listen to my radio while I worked on whatever assignment was given that day. Now, 17 years after graduating from high school, I am learning to study all over again. It is much harder these days, since I also have a toddler to keep up with! Did I mention that my husband also works out of the house and needs things to be relatively quiet while he's on conference calls? That presents a unique challenge as well! I know that there are many people that are in similar situations and that is where the idea for this blog came about. Juggling the normal daily duties while I work towards my career as a medical transcriptionist is what this is all about!

About Christine Volker

I grew up in the Boston area but became a "New Yorker" 9 years ago after meeting my future husband while on vacation in Disney World--we look forward to the day we can share that great story with our daughter. And, because I am always asked, I will say that I have not forgotten my Boston roots and still cheer on the Patriots, Bruins, Red Sox and Celtics!! I have been happily married to my husband, John, for almost 6 years and we have a beautiful daughter, Allison. We also have two great dogs, Molly and Emma! In my spare time, I enjoy reading, crafts, surfing the Internet, and just catching up on any TV shows that I’ve recorded.

Much of my professional life has been spent in the telecommunications field, although I have worked in health care, at both Tufts Health Plan and the New England Journal of Medicine. I am currently a student at M-TEC and look forward to the day when I can call myself a medical transcriptionist!
