Poll Update and Other Campaign News

Published January 10, 2008 7:27 PM by Frank Irving

As promised, here's an update on our unscientific spot poll results following the Jan. 8 New Hampshire primary, won by Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican John McCain.

9% say both Obama and Huckabee will win their party's nomination.

That's down from 13% after the Iowa caucuses and prior to the N.H. primary.

64% say Obama and Huckabee will both be overtaken by other candidates.

That's up from 63% after the Iowa caucuses and prior to the N.H. primary.

27% say Obama will win his party's nomination, but Huckabee will not.

That's up from 25% after the Iowa caucuses and prior to the N.H. primary.

0% say Huckabee will win his party's nomination, but Obama will not.

That's unchanged after the Iowa caucuses and prior to the N.H. primary.

In other campaign news:

  • New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson dropped out of the race for the Democratic nomination. Richardson won 5 percent of the vote in the New Hampshire primary and 2 percent of the vote in the Iowa caucuses last week.

  • John Kerry, the Democratic nominee in the 2004 presidential election, announced his endorsement of Barack Obama. You may recall that Kerry selected Obama to deliver the keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. You may also recall that John Edwards, currently running third behind Clinton and Obama in the 2008 race for the Democratic nomination, was Kerry's running mate in 2004. An Associated Press report noted that Kerry has a national e-mail network of 3 million supporters, so his endorsement could give Obama an organizational and fundraising boost.
