Delegate Count Update

Published January 21, 2008 8:07 PM by Frank Irving
This post continues our delegate count update, which proved popular with blog readers last week. (Source: CNN's Delegate Scorecard.) CNN provides the following breakdown of delegates won to date (as of Jan. 21) in the ongoing presidential primaries and caucuses:

Democrats (2,025 needed for nomination)

Hillary Clinton -- 210

Barack Obama -- 123

John Edwards -- 52

Dennis Kucinich -- 1

Mike Gravel -- 0

Republicans (1,191 needed for nomination)

Mitt Romney -- 72

John McCain -- 38

Mike Huckabee -- 29

Fred Thompson -- 8

Ron Paul -- 6

Rudy Giuliani -- 2

Duncan Hunter -- 1*

* Hunter officially dropped out of the race on Jan. 19. A press release posted on his Web site stated: "Today we end this campaign. The Nevada caucuses [reflected] only 2 percent of the vote for me. I ran the campaign exactly the way I wanted to, and at this point not being able to gain traction in conservative states of Nevada and South Carolina, it's time to allow our volunteers and supporters to focus on the campaigns that remain viable."
