Health Care Figures Among Obama's Promises

Published August 29, 2008 11:09 AM by Frank Irving

In accepting the Democratic presidential nomination last night in Denver, Barack Obama spelled out the components of what he called "the promise of America," the idea that "we are responsible for ourselves, but that we also rise or fall as one nation."

Obama described how health care figures into that definition:

"Now is the time to finally keep the promise of affordable, accessible health care for every single American.

"If you have health care, my plan will lower your premiums. If you don't, you'll be able to get the same kind of coverage that members of Congress give themselves.

"And -- as someone who watched my mother argue with insurance companies while she lay in bed dying of cancer -- I will make certain those companies stop discriminating against those who are sick and need care the most."

He also stated that working families need help with paid sick days and better familiy leave, "because nobody in America should have to choose between keeping their job and caring for a sick child or an ailing parent."

who pays for this healthcare for everyone? if you tax businesses, then the cost of living goes up, but your salary doesn't. if you tax the average person-and that will be the case, it always is-then your livelihood is strapped. Here's a thought, make those on welfare WORK. then give them insurance governed by congress, at a very reduced rate. "give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. teach him to fish, he'll eat for a lifetime".
