Polling Site Projects Large Margin for Obama
According to analysis posted on Oct. 30, 2008, by electoral projection Web site FiveThirtyEight, Barack Obama will win 344 electoral votes to John McCain's 194 in the Nov. 4 election for U.S. president. A candidate needs to tally 270 electoral votes to win the election, so Obama appears to have a nearly insurmountable lead with less than a week to go before Americans cast their votes.
Here's a summary of states each candidate is projected to win:
Obama - Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, Colorado, New Mexico, Washington, Oregon, California and Hawaii.
McCain - West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Arizona and Alaska.
Nevada, Florida, Ohio and North Carolina look to be shaded in Obama's favor.
Indiana looks to be shaded in McCain's favor.
Missouri is too close to call.
