While I know planning for your personal life is a great idea, it doesn't always mean that is what the lord above us has in mind. I've been recently faced with several distractions in my life, family health problems, being laid off, and while I couldn't of seen any of this coming, and never once thought I needed a plan to deal with the stress each of these have brought I've found peace in knowning, this all happens for a reason. I have tried to embrace the challenges of the last 8 plus months of my life, and at times failed miserably. I've come over the other side of the hill, learning life will hand you many bad cards, it's how you choose to cope with those that means the most.

Great Post, I had already started yearly planning but the retreat piece of your post seems like something that will be really helpful to me and my family as well as my team and I.

Ed, your blogs are always inspiring - thank you for sharing your ideas.

Also, just yesterday (before reading this entry), I was inspired to do a bit of strategic planning in my personal life. This post was confirmation from "above" that I am on the right track! =) Yay for Heavenly Signs!

Ed, as usual, your comments are interesting and insightful. In the area of planning, one additional component on which I continue to focus is the on-going review of the plan against actions and milestones throughout the year. That helps me to be accountable for my efforts toward achieving the end results of the plan.

By the way, the lake isn't quite frozen yet, so you can still come back and take your annual plunge.
