Completed the Escape today (6/15). Once I hit the water and drank from the bay a few times, I resorted to the trusty breast stroke. So I was slow but I made it to shore. From there I was more comfortable with the bike and run, albeit both were difficult given the terrain. But I was happy to have faced my fears and pushed through. Thanks for your support.

You might imagine I am a very careful and deliberate planner. When I packed out of the hotel room at 5am race morning, I was unpleasently surprised with a rear flat tire. Despite best laid plans, things can and will go wrong. Helps to have a cool head...and my son racing with me who helped me get it changed in time for the race.

It is primarily a function of our imagination as you well know, and the only way we can deal with it is to plow on through. I like to say that fear is one of the most powerful motivational forces there is in human nature. You gotta love it! Good luck with the race across the Bay. These currents are strong, so I'm sure you're in good shape. If you'd like to know more about me go to http://www.thefearlessfactor.com
