ADVANCE Perspective: LTC

Getting the Word Out

Published October 24, 2007 11:58 AM by Liz Rosto

Last week I attended the American Health Care Association’s annual conference in Boston. While there were many great educational sessions, the highlight for me was attending the awards ceremony and luncheon.

You see, lately there has been a lot of negative news about nursing homes in the main stream press. Unfortunately, this is all the majority of Americans ever read or see, because they don’t get our trade publications or attend our industry conferences.

There are some facilities out there that have had major problems, and it is important to report on them to expose these deficiencies and advance change. But these negligent companies seem to be the exception, rather than the rule.

At ADVANCE, we honor facilities that are providing quality care with our annual Best Long-Term Care Team Contest. Sifting through dozens of entries, I know there are a lot of facilities out there providing great care. I just wish more people knew about it.
