Swine flu and the media

Published May 8, 2009 1:19 PM by Maureen Salera
These days, it seems you can't cruise Internet news sites or switch on the television without seeing or hearing something about swine flu. An article on MSNBC.com questions how these alarming media reports are affecting the public. I have to admit that I have also wondered if all the buzz about this new virus is really just all media hype. This article suggests that the incessant chatter about swine flu could desensitize people from heeding future warnings if the virus were to return in a more severe form this fall.

What are your thoughts on the severity of swine flu? How have the media reports affected what you do in your facility? Are you taking any additional infection control measures? Are you residents fearful? What are you telling them? How are you getting the message out?
