What Is the Value of CIC?

Published January 28, 2013 9:06 AM by Linda Jones

This year, the Certification Board of Infection Control & Epidemiology, Inc. (CBIC) will celebrate 30 years of providing the Certification in Infection Control (CIC) credential.

"The vision of CBIC is that certification by CBIC is the standard of excellence that Infection Prevention and Control professionals will seek to ensure quality care that the public expects, demands, and deserves," said CBIC President Craig Gilliam, BSMT, CIC.

The mission of the board, according to a release from CBIC, is to protect the public through the development, administration and promotion of an accredited certification in infection prevention and control. CBIC maintains and promotes professional certification of the highest quality through the accomplishment of key objectives.

I’m interested in knowing how many people in long-term care employ a CIC and have found benefits in having someone with this certification on staff.

Leave a comment below regarding your thoughts on the value of having CIC employee on staff in long-term care.

Hi Linda,

This is the first time I have heard of the Certification in Infection Control.  I think this is great, but more administrators in long term care need to know about this certification and its' value.  Certified employees could really help reduce infections and then train others best practices.
