Dr. Carol S. Kleinman is a university professor and long-time academic and health care administrator with more than 30 years of industry experience. Dr. Kleinman is currently the dean of nursing at Brookline College in Phoenix.
Previously she was director of health system administration programs at Seton Hall University’s College of Nursing in South Orange, N.J. There she directed three graduate programs and, as an associate professor, taught numerous health services administration courses at the graduate level. Her successful grant writing activities resulted in her being awarded and becoming project director of a grant for almost $600,000, funded by the Bureau of Health Professions, Division of Nursing, Health and Human Services (HRSA), to implement the MSN program in Health Systems Administration in a fully online format. She is also a HRSA peer-reviewer for the annual nursing grant process.
Dr. Kleinman has had extensive experience in distance learning and online instruction, having developed and implemented many programs over the last ten years. Several years ago she was hired as a consultant by Laureate Education, parent company of Walden University, to help develop the leadership and management specialization in the Master of Nursing program.
Dr. Kleinman earned her doctoral degree in behavioral science from the Florida Institute of Technology’s School of Professional Psychology and a Master of Science in psychiatric nursing from Adelphi University. Before moving to New Jersey, she was director of health services administration at Nebraska Health Services in Omaha. Prior to that experience, she was the nurse executive responsible for behavioral health services at Broward General Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., flagship hospital of the fourth largest integrated health care delivery system in the country.
Dr. Kleinman is currently an executive officer for the national Council on Graduate Education for Administration in Nursing (CGEAN) and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Institute for Nursing of New Jersey. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Business and Health Administration Association (BHAA) and served as track chair for nursing administration for the annual BHAA conference. She is a peer reviewer for the Bureau of Health Professions, Division of Nursing, Health and Human Services, speaks nationally on nursing administration subjects, and has been published in numerous journals, including the Journal of Nursing Administration, Journal of Continuing Education in Nursing, Hospital Topics, JONA’s Journal of Healthcare Law, Regulation, and Ethics, and the Journal of Health Administration Education.
