AAE Brings New Ideas in Asthma Education to Denver

Published July 23, 2011 10:20 AM by Valerie Newitt

The Association of Asthma Educators is "Taking Asthma Education to New Heights" - literally -- as its annual conference welcomes attendees from all corners of the United States to its 2011 site at Denver Marriott South in mile-high Denver, Colo.

East-coasters hoping to escape scorching temperatures in the cool shadow of the Rockies were surprised by mid-90s heat and sunshine here in Denver. But no matter, the payoff is congeniality topped off by cutting edge education for the educators.

This morning's session opened with a breakfast Swap Shop, a new innovation for AAE. Those in attendance could merely raise a hand to be selected as a spur-of-the-moment presenter, allowing an immediate spotlight on new ideas, great practice tips and plenty of time for Q&A.

One of the impromptu presenters, from the American Lung Association, put out a call for participants for an asthma study that is likely to appeal to young asthma patients. Child-parent teams are being recruited to participate on an online game called Lungtropolis. As participants wend their way through this kid-friendly game they will learn all about asthma and strategies for health.  Participants will be asked to view a website and answer some questions, and will receive $75 in exchange. Complete information is available at .
