An Interesting Incentive

Published October 16, 2008 1:53 PM by Amanda Koehler

For our July 28 issue, I wrote a cover story on blood bank incentives and how they are influencing the blood supply.

Today I stumbled upon an interesting incentive I hadn't thought of while writing my story. Virginia Intermont College, Bristol, is offering $1,500 college scholarships to 20 area high school students who are also blood donors. The scholarships will continue for the students yearly as long as they are meeting academic standards.

The school is partnering with Wellmont Health System's Marsh Regional Blood Center to provide the scholarships to the students. I thought this was a great idea to get younger people to donate and to help increase the blood supply. For more on the story, click here.

It's funny   but right now I'm very much regretting the dseicion to cancel the showit site.  There was just something about what they offered that appealed to me I think on a level beyond simple appearance.  I might have to re-think this sooner rather than later.
