What's Your Type?

Published February 3, 2009 3:01 PM by Amanda Koehler

Apparently, in Japan knowing your blood type is akin to knowing what your astrological sign is.

I ran across this article today and found it interesting. It says four of Japan's top 10 best-selling books in the last year were about how your blood type dictates your personality. This book series has sold over 5 million copies!

The books say: "Type As are sensitive perfectionists but overanxious; Type Bs are cheerful but eccentric and selfish; Os are curious, generous but stubborn; and ABs are arty but mysterious and unpredictable."

The Prime Minister of Japan, Taro Aso, has even included his blood type on his Web site. (He's a Type A, if you were wondering). The nation's women softball team members were even categorized by their blood type to help with their training!

The Japanese also believe blood type has something to do with compatibility in romantic relationships. Matchmaking agencies in the country provide blood-type compatibility tests, and there is a Japanese sitcom in the works about a woman looking for a husband according to blood type.

However, scientists say blood type has nothing to do with personality, and employers who ask interviewees what their blood types are during interviews are being discriminatory.

So maybe it's not a good idea to ask someone what his blood type is on a first date...
