ADVANCE Outlook: Lab Professionals

Beginning With the End

Published April 18, 2009 10:29 AM by Kerri Penno
Don Simpson, PhD, MPH, CT(ASCP)CM, chairman, Department of Laboratory Sciences, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Little Rock, and president-elect, ASCT, welcomed the group to the second day's events. Dr. Simpson spoke to the organization's challenges, mission and goals. Change and turbulence are constants in healthcare, he noted, so to experience them now in cytotechnology is only to experience "the status quo."

Looking to the year ahead, the society's goals focus on communication with the membership, providing educational opportunities and materials, and advocating for the profession and students. Dr. Simpson stressed the importance of planning and looking forward, "beginning with the end" and keeping these goals in mind, and encouraged attendees to make the trip to Austin next year for ASCT 2010.
