ADVANCE Outlook: Lab Professionals

Taste of Philadelphia

Published May 18, 2009 1:45 PM by Kerri Penno

This year's American Society of Microbiology General Meeting is in Philadelphia, just a few miles away from the ADVANCE home base in King of Prussia, PA. The meeting kicked off yesterday with an opening session focusing on microbes and evolution. This was followed by an opening reception held at the National Constitution Center, where attendees enjoyed a "Tastes of Philadelphia" menu, featuring the Philadelphia classics: cheesesteaks, hoagies inspired by the Italian Market and Tastykakes.

This morning, attendees chose from numerous scientific symposiums and colloquiums, on topics ranging from "Coping With Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing Challenges," to "Shaking the Tree of Life," to "Funky Photosynthesis: Novel Ways of Using Light Energy for Growth."

Today also featured the Poster Presentations, Student Oral Presentations, a Special Interest Symposium on Careers for Microbiologists, and three Special Awards Lectures, as well as the exhibits.
