The Importance of Recognition
Everyone likes to be recognized for his or her work. Managers need to make sure they show their appreciation for their laboratorians.
In his book GIVING the Real Recognition Way, Roy Saunderson goes over different recognition scenarios and what managers can do to show their thanks. Here are some ideas for celebrating an employee's service anniversary. Think of what your lab has done in the past in this situation, and share your tips and experiences here!
Saunderson suggested:
1. Whether through software reminder systems, written reminders or mental notation, REMEMBER the day of their service anniversary as well as honoring them at designated annual or scheduled corporate events.
2. Seek out ideas and information on expectations for celebrating length of service awards from older employees. Don't second-guess. It will only get you into trouble.
3. Personalize everything around long-term service awards and orchestrate everything to highlight each individual and their contributions.
4. Ask who they want to be present at the ceremonies and invite them to come. Bring along a camera to capture the occasion!
