In Memoriam: Amy Svihovec, 23
Amy Svihovec, age
23, a medical laboratory scientist living in the Denver area, was killed in an automobile accident on
Tuesday, Nov. 24 while driving from Colorado to
spend Thanksgiving with her family in North Dakota.
She attended and graduated from the
University of
Mary graduating with honors with a degree in medical technology, following in her father's
career. She long held the dream of going to medical school, but after she
interned her senior year of college at the University of Colorado Hospital in
Aurora, CO, she decided to put medical school on hold
and took a full time job there. There, she worked on a special research project.
Her work on the project was submitted to the FDA and presented at a scientific
meeting. She then went to work in the molecular diagnostics laboratory. In 2006,
was a recipient of a $5,000 scholarship from Dade
Behring.
She is survived by her parents, Jim and
Linda Svihovec, brother, Nathan; her grandparents, an uncle, numerous aunts and
many cherished cousins and countless friends who mourn her death. A memorial
service was held Saturday, Nov. 29 at Watford City, ND.
