ADVANCE Outlook: Lab Professionals

Ethical Issues in the Lab

Published February 6, 2012 3:09 PM by Kelly Bocich

What kind of ethical issues have you been faced with in the lab? Have you struggled with the best way to handle difficult situations?

On Tuesday, Feb. 7, we'll be hosting a webinar to discuss some common and not-so-common ethical issues that may arise. During this free event, Glen McDaniel, MS, MBA, MLS, DLM, healthcare consultant and popular ADVANCE contributor, will be taking audience questions about moral dilemmas faced on the job and how to overcome them.

Medical laboratory professionals, from entry-level up, are constantly determining whether certain events and cases are recordable and noteworthy, followed by record maintenance on those issues. The presenter will review common ethical mistakes and look at your challenging case questions. The webinar will also discuss how you can use past blunders to help decrease the likelihood of future recordable events to help strengthen your personal and your laboratory's credibility and reputation.

If you have an ethical issue you'd like to discuss, you can leave a comment here, or email kbocich@advanceweb.com if you'd prefer to stay anonymous.

Register here for this free event.

Hi Kelly. Any plans to have another session on this? I got a lot of the background information but what I like is the actual review of cases. Somtimes it is difficult to come to a conclusion and sometimes supervisors make different with a reason and the more I hear the more comfortable I personally would feel making those decisions. Of course it is  a good tool to use to coach employees as well.

Very, very interesting webinar. I enjoyed it and learned  a lot. Any plans for a repeat or discussion of more case studies?
