Press Start: Lead an Empowered Life as a Clinical Laboratorian

CLMA Moves Headquarters to Chicago

Published February 6, 2010 3:56 PM by Glen McDaniel

The Clinical Laboratory Management Association (CLMA) issued a press release recently indicating that it has moved its headquarters from Wayne, PA to Chicago. CLMA, an association of 3.400 members worldwide, has selected the firm of SmithBucklin as its management company.

Organizations, like individuals have been affected by the downturn in the economy. CLMA which has traditionally been identified with laboratory management (note its name) in recent years has tried to broaden its base and revenue stream by suggesting it represents all laboratorians "at all stages of their careers."

Several organizations have chosen to reduce overhead and draw on the infrastructure, economies of scale and expertise of independent professional management companies like SmihBucklin. Very often they pay only for the services they use, rather than maintaining a full service office with full time paid staff. I predict we will see more such moves in the future among clinical laboratory organizations.

I bet you are right. Everybody is feeling the squeeze of the economy. I wonder what the associations do with all the money we pay for dues. One thing that might happen is that some organizations might go out of business and we will have just 2 or 3 strong organizations instead of so many. Haha. Right!
