I've graduated, passed the boards and began working all in a matter of a few short weeks. After the whole Student Bowl experience, I was feeling pretty well prepared to take the Board of Registry Exam. Of course,

re: New Professional

Nicley done! It was just over 9 years ago I graduated from your neighborly school at UW-Madison and passed my ASCP boards. I won't tell you my score, however. Sad to say now, that the UW board of Regents recently closet the state of Wisconsin's "flagship" program for MT. Not to say that UW Osh Kosh doesn't have a great program, but its a downer anytime an MT program closes due to budgets. I've actually met a few great UWOK students and many of the great WSCLS conventions, so make sure you get your new employer to send and pay for those for you next April.

I share your pain and excitement on boards, as I've took my physcian assistant boards yesterday. A long 6 hour grueling test that indeed had some laboratory questions on testing, interpretting, and microbiology identification of pathogens. I must say PA school was easier being a former MT than if I hadn't been one. Enjoy your new career and be glad to know your education has set you up to understand the world new ways and whatever you do in the future, your MT education will not let you down.

I scored 692 on the ASCP Board of Registry Exam (minimum passing score is 400). I am very proud of that accomplishment, as I believe that medical laboratory professionals should prioritize KNOWLEDGE of the THEORY behind our job responsibilities much more highly than those who would minimize its importance by claiming "it doesn't matter what you score as long as you pass and you're certified."

(ASCP would not have joined NCA in requiring 36 hours of continuing education every three years AFTER one initially "passes" the test if at least someone there did not agree with me on this!)

Congratulations! :)
