Going to the Chiropractor
In true "Jen" form, I fell a few weeks ago. I hurt my shoulder. The pain didn't seem to dissipate much. After much "arm twisting" by both of my parents, I decided to visit their chiropractor. I was nervous about it; I didn't know much about chiropractic, so I did some research before I went. My nerves were somewhat calmed after I did some reading, but I admit the idea of someone poking and prodding something that hurt was still scary. I thought he would crack every joint in my body, then tell me to come back three time a week for the rest of my life.
It ended up going very well. The chiropractor talked about his training, and didn't mention anything about scheduling frequent appointments. The visit was affordable, and focused on my shoulder, which he said is a sprain to the AC joint. He did some manipulations, explained the anatomy of the shoulder, gave me an exercise to do at home, and hooked me up to an electrical stimulator for a few minutes. He even helped my foot, which was still hurting after a fall two years ago. He asked me to come back for one followup, which I did this morning. He noted that the swelling had gone down, and did a little bit of "adjustment," then a few more minutes of the "stim."
I must say that now I am a tentative proponent of chiropractic. I like having exercises and a good understanding of my problem rather than another prescription.
