NP Involved in School Clinic Program

Published April 21, 2008 7:16 PM by Jennifer Ford

In Spectrum Community School in Kitsap, Wash., a school clinic, staffed by nurse practitioner Gretchen Berni, is a pilot clinic for several clinics the state hopes to open soon. Grants have been provided to see whether a school-based clinic, providing primary, mental health, dental, and other health care services could help more patients access care.

School clinics could be a great way for NPs to reach patients with limited access to care. They might be an interesting avenue for the retail health industry to take as well.

This would be a great avenue for preventive care.  Education about health, exercising and eating right in order to prevent obesity and heart disease in the adult years.  Sign me up.
