Video: News Coverage on Arkansas NP Practice

Published June 9, 2008 2:10 PM by Jennifer Ford

This footage aired on a Little Rock, Arkansas news channel. It profiles a nurse practitioner, Rebecca McCarrie, who started a private family practice and is providing much-needed care to her community, or, as she calls it, her "extended family."

I read with interest the June posting by William "In Support of AANP Certification".  I have been certified by the ANCC since 1984.  I have been a member of the AANP for more than 15 years.  I have, since February of this year, been trying to transfer my certification through reciprocity to the AANP ( my ANCC certification does not expire until 12/2009).  After several months I received a form which I completed and returned with a check.  A month after that I received a letter which informed me that I had been approved to sit for the Certification Examination.  I do not need to retest. Since then I have made multiple phone calls, left multiple voice mail messages, sent multiple emails to both the certification center in Texas and the administrative center in Washington DC.  It is going on a month now and I have received not one response.

A colleague of mine has been certified by the AANP for 5 years now.  She has been trying to recertify for several months.  AANP received her form but lost her check.  She now has an expired certification and has been trying for weeks to talk to a live person to rectify the situation (eg pay by credit card over the phone) with no success.

If the AANP is the most appropriate body to certify Nurse Practitioners they are going to need to do a better job than this!
