Sen. Kerry Praises NP’s Foresight
In his address this morning at the CMS e-prescribing conference, Sen. John Kerry mentioned nurse practitioner Scharmaine Lawson-Baker.
When Lawson-Baker evacuated New Orleans just before Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast in 2005, she remembered to grab her PDA. The patient information contained in the device allowed her to resume care for her patients when she returned to the city just weeks later – and when the medical records of thousands of others were lost.
Kerry held up Lawson-Baker’s experience as an example of the power of health care technology. His remarks will be available on the CMS conference Web site starting October 15.
