Bringing Disease Screening Home?

Published December 10, 2008 12:59 PM by Jennifer Ford

Anyone can now order kits online for anywhere from $30 to $70 that test for diabetes, colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, osteoporosis and other diseases. BioIQ makes kits that are delivered to consumers' homes, consumers perform the self-test and send the kit back to a lab, then BioIQ posts the results online.

See an ABC News affiliate television report on the BioIQ at-home test system here.

BioIQ claims that this service will help those who travel often or work remotely. If the testing is effective, is this trend a viable alternative to getting these tests done by a trained health care provider? Could it help reduce health care costs?
