NYT: Hospitals Opening Retail Clinics

Published May 12, 2009 2:00 PM by Jennifer Ford

Today the New York Times published an article detailing the entry of hospitals into the retail healthcare arena. They also reported about Walmart partnering with hospital systems to fill the clinic spaces left empty by some previous clinic closures.

ADVANCE covers these issues in the Retail Health Report column, in print and online. I spoke with Merchant Medicine CEO Tom Charland about this development in the industry, and he noted that because hospitals have trusted names and the funds to back clinics, they are well suited to the challenge of opening a retail health clinic.

Hospitals aren't the only ones who can benefit from changes to the retail health industry. Stay tuned for future columns about intriguing new opportunities NPs can take advantage of in retail healthcare!
