New Business Model for NP Owners?

Published November 12, 2008 7:50 AM by Jill Rollet

Did you see this story in Monday's New York Times about a 24-hour primary care clinic? This isn't an emergency department or acute care. Instead, patients can walk-in or schedule an appointment for a flu shot, cholesterol test, Pap smear or employment physical - anything they could get at a primary care office - in the middle of the night. The providers interviewed for the article say they see more than their share of patients with insomnia. Go figure.

Of course, this model could only work in the city that never sleeps and maybe few others. And on the night the Times reporter visited, the clinic had only four patients between 10 pm and 6 am. But if you're looking for a niche for your own NP practice, think about stretching the boundaries.
