NPs & PAs Are Talking – June 25, 2012

Published June 25, 2012 2:49 PM by Kelly Wolfgang

This week, ADVANCE for NPs & PAs editorial staff members Jen Ford and Kelly Wolfgang attended the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) Conference 2012 in Orlando, Florida. We updated our Facebook and Twitter pages throughout the week with pictures, recaps, details of sessions and more!

On Facebook, we shared pictures of many of the great women in the field, including founder of the NP profession, Loretta Ford. Our senior associate editor Jennifer Ford met Loretta and posed for a picture during the conference. "It is always an honor to meet with this pioneer in nursing!" Jen said. Have you ever met Loretta or any other prominent nurse practitioners? Share your photos and stories with us on Facebook!

We also shared a photo of Joanne Pohl, PhD, ANP-BC, FAAN, FAANP receiving the Loretta C. Ford Award for Advancement of the Nurse Practitioner Role in Health Care. Joanne was given the award at the AANP conference opening ceremony and received a standing ovation from the crowd of thousands of NPs who gathered for the event. We will be sharing more photos, videos and news from the conference soon. Check back to our Facebook page for updates!

On Twitter, we shared more conference news and photos. NPs from across the country gathered on Twitter to share their experiences in Florida. Here were some of our favorite tweets from #AANP12:

@StephenNP: "#AANP12 keynote ‘NPs must also assess the following in patients: incr happiness/joy/thriving' to make positive impact"

@MichLitch: "AANP has grown in membership by 23% in the last 18 months. #AANP12"

@PamRNP: "'There's definitely a mind-body connection. It's the neck' - Margaret Fitzgerald #AANP12"

@NurseBarbDehn "Having brkfast with Dr Deb Kiley, #AANP12 conference chair, who said ‘A NP can be Medical Home all by themselves' : great msg 4 Healthcare"

Do you have something to share with NPs around the nation? Include @ADVANCEforNPPA in your tweets and we'll help spread the word!

Of course, we couldn't leave the AANP conference out on our website this week! We provided a recap of day one and day two for everyone who couldn't make it out to Florida for the event. Read our blog posts to hear just what NP leaders discussed at the conference and see more tweets from inside the session rooms.

We had a great time meeting NPs, discussing the profession and learning from the NP perspective. If you were at the conference, we hope you were able to stop by our booth in the exhibit hall. If you couldn't make it, we hope to see you next year as AANP takes over Las Vegas.

Comments are reposted here verbatim, without editing. We love to get feedback from our readers. If you're not chatting with us on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, "like", "follow" and "connect" with us and start sharing in the conversations! If you are, keep following and spread the word.

If there's something you think we should be discussing, let us know. As always, thanks for following!
