Welcome!
Welcome to our very first entry here on the
ADVANCE Outlook Blog! What is a blog you ask? Well, it is a "log" kept on the "Web"-a web log. Throw it together and you get "Blog!" Blogs are online, interactive journals. They feature text and images as well as links to other Web sites and blogs. Readers often participate in blogs by leaving comments to posts. (And there are "lurkers" who simply read and move on...and that's OK, too!)
Blogging has grown to become one of the most used features on the Web today. Heck, even the NY Times has a blog on their Web site now! Last I checked Technorati, a recognized authority on what's happening in the world of blogging, there are 108.9 million blogs in existence. Accoring to Technorati, there are 175,000 new blogs every day, and bloggers update their blogs regularly to the tune of over 1.6 million posts per day. That's over 18 updates a second. That's a lot of bloggin' goin' on!
I must stop here and make a confession: I am one of those 108.9 million. I am a blogging dork. I have been one for two years now. It began as a way to keep in touch with my family and friends, most of who live quite far from me. When I began I only had one friend blogging and more often than not my posts went without comments from readers. Back then, my posts probably went without readers for that matter! I treat my blog as a photo journal of sorts. I have this inherent need to always include photos with each and every post. That task has become much easier now that I have my son! And of course, my loved ones now flock to my site to see what Gabriel is up to and how he is changing. My love of blogging finally caught on in our family and in my circle of friends. Today I have a handful of devoted readers, some of which have even created their own personal blogs! I now read those daily, as well as a few other blogs that have made my "must read" list which include mothers, crafters, book lovers, etc. I have found that I am learning a lot from the blogging world, but most importantly I am learning a lot about myself since I am constantly writing down my thoughts and feelings. My blog is my modern day journal.
If you have a blog, what types of things do you blog about? If you don't have a blog, why not? Don't be a "lurker"...share your thoughts with us!
