A Conversation with Mack Ivy
Earlier today I had the opportunity to talk with Mack Ivy, MOT, OTR, outgoing president of TOTA as we waited to cut the ribbon leading to the conference's exhibit hall. Standing there we discussed his presidency as well as his plans for the future.
The terms served in office, he said, had been a success. He had accomplished in those years much that he could be proud of, particularly in terms of TOTA's relationships with other associations. For some time, TOTA had been the only state not to sign an affiliation with AOTA. Ivy wanted to and did change that. He also improved the association's relationship with TPTA as well as TBOT. Now TOTA, in conjunction with the other organizations, can happily work toward getting the best quality of care delivered to patients throughout Texas. Mission, he said, accomplished.
What's next, now that Lynda Jennings has officially been sworn into office and Ivy no longer holds the title of president? Research, for his PhD program, and continued involvement - not only in TOTA but in other associations such as the Affiliated State Association Presidents - and of course he will remain a practicing OT, helping patients receiving palliative care increase their quality if not also their quantity of life.
