The Prevalence of Alzheimer's

Published April 29, 2011 4:07 PM by Jill Glomstad
The aging of the baby boom generation has been a looming topic in the backs of the minds of many health care policymakers, administrators and adult/geriatric practitioners for years now. But 2011 marks the start of those baby boomers turning 65 - more than 10,000 a day will cross that age threshold, according to the Alzheimer's Association.

The organization has released a report, "Generation Alzheimer's," to emphasize the severity and pervasiveness of the condition. Ten million baby boomers are predicted to die from or with the disease.

The report details the growing prevalence of the disease and conveys the burden of Alzheimer's and dementia on individuals, families, government and the nation's health care system.

The report is available free of charge on the Alzheimer's Association website at http://alz.org/boomers/.
