The Spirit of the Games

Published July 27, 2012 2:56 PM by Jill Glomstad
Before first note of the Opening Ceremonies was sounded, the Olympic spirit burned bright in London today. The Games are traditionally a place where athletes dig deep and find the power, skill and focus to break records.

Who was the first to rise to the occasion and break the first record in London? Im Dong Hyun, an archer from Korea who is legally classified as blind and cannot see out of his right eye, according to an article today on CNN.com. The 26-year-old won Olympic gold medals in archery in both Beijing and Athens.

Olympic athletes are paragons of motivation, dedication, perseverance and passion - attributes that also contribute to successful rehabilitation. Are you using the Olympics in any way with your patients, either as a topic for discussion or a theme for activities? If so, please share your experiences in the comments below. If you have photos of your activities, you can submit them to us to appear on our website as well!
