Wellness across the populations

Published August 1, 2011 12:43 PM by Courtney Crone
The class I am taking this quarter is a very interesting one, we are learning how to promote wellness in all populations and cultures. In this we are learning a new niche for Occupational Therapists to enter into, prevention. I find this theory interesting as we move toward prevention throughout the medical profession OT is on the front lines carving out our niche. In my opinion occupational therapists are key to the wellness movement. We can use our skills in assesing the whole person to create wellness plans that people will stick to because they are specific to the individual rather than a general guideline for the population to follow and try to figure out a way to implement on their own. My group's project this quarter is to promote the prevention and decrease the prevelance of adolecent obeisity. I am excited to begin work on this project because it could lead to a larger project that could help a lot of people, we are limited in our ten weeks with how far we can reach but I think its a good starting point for the profession as a whole to move towards. What are your feelings about prevention rather than rehabilitation?
