Transitioning to OTR

Published November 12, 2012 7:22 PM by Courtney Crone
Well this past week and half has been interesting. So far I have felt overwhelmed but happy in my new role. Before I started back working I thought the transition was going to be simple after all I have already completed two level two fieldwork placements and I worked with this population for a year before starting fieldwork. I found out quickly that I was wrong! While I have tons of support and I will get through this process with few bumps and bruises I learned the hard way that I am once again entry level! It doesnt matter how many years I spent working as a COTA becoming an OTR is completely different. It is a different way of thinking, a different level of responsibility and a different way to document. I am confident that I have been trained appropriately but I have to remember that I am going to make some mistakes because I have never done this before! As confident as I feel I have also been humbled to realize I still have a long way to go! How about you, do you remember what it was like when you started your first OT job?
