R & R for the COTA
Well this past week included a bit of R & R for me. I guess the summer weather we been having here lately is the reason why. The nice weather made my mind continue to wander off to thoughts of an upcoming vacation. After several day dreams, my final conclusion on this thought was that I just had to sneak out to the campground for a weekend trip. A couple of days of fresh lake air next can really do a lot to clear one's head. Of course, there's my camp chair to rest a tired body.
The past month has been very busy for me. At work, our caseload had been high with a few extra hours of work here and there. At home, I had several family events happening that were keeping me busy in the evenings and on the weekends. Between the busy schedule at work and all the happenings at home, I began to feel like my tank was running dry.
Anyway, there I was, sitting in my camp chair, sipping coffee, and feeding the local group of Mallards when a comment from a patient came to mind. This comment was that he was happy it was Friday so he could rest. When I asked him what he needed to rest from, he said therapy! He said he had never in his life exercised so much, and was going to stay in bed all weekend for some R & R!
As much as comments like this are heard often in the clinic, this one really stuck in my mind because this came from one of our younger patients. Yes, this person was quite out of shape but I really didn't think that their therapy was that tough. I guess this is one good reason to stay in shape.
Anyway, just as we need a bit of R & R now and then so do our patients! For those of you planning a summer vacation, I hope you have an enjoyable time, stay safe, and get a bit of rest.
Until next time, hope all your thoughts are good,
Tim
