Corporate Greed
Do you ever wonder how much the CEO of a company makes? I mean their yearly salary, plus bonuses, perks, stock options, etc. I did some research on this subject, and really had my eyes opened. I used to think only movie stars and sport superstars earned so much money!
In 2001, the average CEO of a major corporation earned a salary of $11 million. Yes, I said eleven million! And that was 7 years ago. Just this past year, the CEO of Pfizer Corp. earned $15.9 million. That comes out to roughly $7,650 per hour based on the normal 2080 hours we work per year if working full time. I don't know about you, but what he makes in one hour takes me almost three months to earn. By the way, he also is guaranteed a $6.5 million per year retirement package. I could retire several times on one year's payment of his!
Now, I doubt that the CEO's of many of the therapy companies make that much, unless you work for one of the mega corporations or a large hospital. In that job capacity you might expect to earn anywhere between $200 to 250 thousand per year. Still not a bad paycheck ($7,700 to 9,600 bi-weekly, give or take a few bucks) if you ask me.
Digging a bit deeper, sadly I found that the CEO of one major rehab company earned $1.3 million last year. The sadder part is that there are eight corporate heads in this company, with a total payroll of $4.15 million. That's a lot of therapy units billed by us to support those huge salaries, don't you think so?
I did find a great article while researching this blog. It's all about what you could afford if you were a large corporation CEO. Read it here. It's really interesting to see what a few people are able to buy on their paycheck.
So, then I decided to calculate my own salary if I made big bucks to see what taxes, deductions, etc do to a big check.
Here is a chart calculating my $300 an hour salary:
Your Estimated Paycheck Results |

Bi-weekly Gross Pay |
$ 23,947.42 |

Federal Withholding |
$ 7,550.51 |

Social Security |
$ 1,484.74 |

Medicare |
$ 347.24 |

So even though I start with almost $24,000, after deductions the take home is $12,977.87 before medical/dental/vision, etc. Considering what I make now, I guess I could live on this!
Until next time, hope all your thoughts are good,
