Balancing Work & Home
Finding a balance between work and home is an important life skill that many of us may have difficulty with. I'm not sure if my balance has been the best lately, and I'm not sure if it's because of the heavy caseload at work, or the demands at home.
Of course with the holidays upon us, time becomes more and more precious. There are errands and shopping to be done, baking to start, decorations to put up, the wife's car broke down again, and, and... I'm already tired just thinking about all that has to be done.
At work the caseload has suddenly increased, and several are quite needy and have complicated diagnoses. A few who are Max assist for sit to stand, a couple more who are Mod assist with ADL's, the few in isolation who have to be seen one on one make for a long day sometimes. Then there's the darn slow computer that takes half an hour to log in and out on, the phone ringing constantly, and I'm tired before I even leave for home.
Once I get home the animals are waiting to be fed as soon as I walk in, the mail is waiting, the phone messages that need to be answered, and the family is crying "we're hungry". After dinner and cleaning up the dishes, answering the e-mails and other business that needs attention comes next. Then there's the occasional (for now) homework paper or reading that needs to be completed. Finally, if I'm not already sleeping, there's time for me to get on the computer and play a game or two to relax.
And that is what I believe is my key to balancing my work and home life; taking a bit of every day for myself to relax. I try to deal with the present days issues as needed, first work, then home, but then it's my time. Taking this little bit of time each night helps me wind down and forget the daily grind. I'm sure many of you have your way of relaxing too. Some like to exercise, some read, some watch television, just as long as you can have that bit of time for yourself and put the day's business behind you.
Until next time, hope all your thoughts are good-
Tim
