Recruiters
Today I want to talk about recruiters. No, actually I want to dump on them and get this off my chest. Call them job searchers, headhunters, or whatever, they all have the same attitude that their offer is the best you can get. Fast talking sales people is what some remind me of. I know they have their job to do, but as of late some of them are really getting bold and quite obnoxious at times.
The ones I hate the most are the ones who call me at work, cold calls, ones that just call the facility and ask for the therapy department. They don't know who will answer the phone, but it's usually a therapist, right? They interrupt the delivery of therapy to my patients, and then proceed to ask if I need a job....
(DUH, you called me at work, why do you really think I need a job?) When I reply that I am not interested, then they continue on and ask me if I know anyone looking for work. (Hmmm, all my colleagues here are working too, so what do you think?) The absolute worst thing though is when they ask me to send names to them so they can offer them a position. (I have a job, remember? I don't want yours either.)
In these days of web mail, I have some headhunters (excuse me, recruiters) that have found my e-mail address. Yes most usually go to my junk mail folder, but others get through. I use two different e-mail addresses too, and the e-mails find me at both. Many of these e-mails are for travelling positions or in locations around the country. Guess there is no thought given if the recipient is even interested in doing travelling therapy or moving across the country for a new position?
The last headhunter I spoke with though is what made me decide on this topic. After his usual claims of this position being one of the best offers around, working for a good and stable facility, etc, etc, he offered me the name of the place. Even after telling him I had interviewed there in the past and did not like the facility he continued to tell me why I should take this offer, or at least interview there and see if things have changed. As I continued to reply that I was not interested, actually more just trying to get this guy off the phone, he continued his barrage of words and blurted out a statement that struck me funny. "We get paid big bucks to get therapists to interview and hire there...."
That one really made me think... "They get paid big bucks?" WHY? Is this more money to be taken out of the budget that needs to be earned by increasing productivity standards again? I sure hope not.
Until next time, hope all your thoughts are good-
Tim
