Childhood Health Literacy Program Ceremony
Here are a few photos from Monday afternoon’s ceremony at the AAPA building in Alexandria, Va., to commemorate an agreement for the academy to partner with the Dept. of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health on a national early childhood health literacy program.
The AAPA and OMH have “agreed to develop strategies to improve health literacy education among children in communities that are disproportionately affected by chronic disease, specifically diabetes, mental health, immunization-preventable diseases, asthma, and obesity.”
"We have always recognized that PAs are on the front lines (of health care) and are more likely to serve underserved populations," said Garth Graham, MD, MPH, who is the deputy assistant secretary for minority health. "The leadership (of the AAPA) came up with a great idea to target childhood health literacy."
