Paul Robinson is AAPA President-Elect

Published May 9, 2008 2:56 PM by Stephen Cornell

Wisconsin PA Paul Robinson is officially the next president-elect of the AAPA. The academy announced the results of its election for board of directors on Thursday.

The following were elected by 14.8% of the eligible AAPA fellow members:
President Elect – Paul Robinson
Treasurer – Bruce Fichandler
Directors at Large – Patti Pagels and Linda Contreras

Participation was not impressive. Of the more than 68,000 practicing PAs in the United States, about 30,000 were eligible to vote as AAPA fellow members, and only 4,454 actually voted. That's less than 7% of all PAs.

I am delighted to see the two new BOD members as both are hard workers and I hope they have the ability to "hear " what the PA community is saying. I think that Bruce is the best treasurer that we've ever had and am also happy that he has a voice on the board. his experience is vital and his input is always solid.

What bothers me is that the 7% is a never changing statistic. It's the 7% solution. This solution is unacceptable and the AAPA needs to discover the " Why" behind this problem. So many think that they have no voice and think that there will always be business as usual. I am looking forward to the day that the Board will reach out and ask us, " what are you really looking for? what are your problems? Do you dislike our name? Do you want to cross bridges and work with NPs for better healthcare in America? do you want the AAPA to have an official Liaison relationship with the AANP? How can we better work together on needs that surface in healthcare? Can we be more effective legislatively if we go 2X2, 1 NP and 1 PA to stand together for the real needs in health." These are some of my questions as well as some that have echoed in my ears as I speak at conferences across the country.

When the call goes our for respoonses to this the 7% will move to at least double.
